Mike.

Raven,

“Born Slippy” is a good song isn’t it.
It’s been a long time for sure since I heard from you, and I geuss now since I replied to your e-mail.
I remember how busy you were when I met you, always doing something somewhere. I’d have to persuade you just to meet, lol. I should have been more active back then too, but I was usually recovering from hangover on the weekends there.
My fate has found me living in Hawaii at the moment. I decided to go back to school last year to get my Masters Degree in Business, hopefully this will give me a better jump start to my career than being an English teacher can give. But ya, things here are going good. A bit about hawaii….
it’s real humid
it’s an island
the locals don’t like people from mailand america too much
it’s an island
everything is real expensive here
it’s an island
did I mention, it’s an island. I know Taiwan is an island but it’s a lot bigger and more welcoming than the people here.
What is your new job? are you still living by Shida?
I hope you are not as busy now a days and occasionally decide to stop by Roxy Junior on the way home to have a drink.
I should tell you Raven, I have traveled the world, lived in various countries, and have met many, many women in the process. But, I would have to say that you were perhaps the most different than any girl I’ve met. I had often thought of you long after I left Taiwan.
I hope that this e-mail finds you well,
mike

Dear Mike,

Getting your email was a nice surprise, and am glad you’re doing well. Am surprised you ended up in Hawaii, but then again, it suits you — I remember that you liked to surf and the sun. I would imagine you’d like it there — Hawaii has a laid-back atmosphere that has perfect weather 365 days a year. Surely very different from Taiwan where the weather changes like a woman’s unpredictable moods.

Life has been different these days. I’m still busy, but my priorities have changed. I don’t party that much anymore, and it’s been ages since I’ve been to Roxy 99. Did I tell you I organized events before? Well, am still doing that pro bono and it’s been 2 years now, but I now do it professionally as well. Like you, my priorities have moved towards building a career, and so far, things are rosy. I’ve also moved, to the commercial district where I just walk to work. My place is close by the Taipei 101 now.

Likewise, you pop into my head now and then. To tell you the truth, you were one of the very very few that could’ve been. And let me share with you a secret that should put a smile on your face — you were, and still is, the best kisser I’ve ever had. 🙂

But aside from that, the time we had were fond memories, and being in your arms was truly amazing. It felt so good to feel protected for once. My only wish was that we had more time, but unfortunately, time was a luxury we didn’t have…

Oh nd yes, “Born Slippy” was and still is a great song.

All the best,

Raven

Opening wounds, closing cycles.

I didn’t expect him to reply back — but he did.

Sometimes, we think about “Maybes,” or “What ifs?”

Mike was one of those.

But maybe life has a way of working out this way — me in Taiwan, him back in the U.S., and in Hawaii at that.

We look back, we smile, we move on.

And our hearts leave a crack that changes us for a lifetime.

Thank you Mike.

Thank you for everything.

About Bonita

I'm a forgetful person. But I think a lot. Every day, a lot of thoughts enter my head. That's why this blog came to be: first, to keep my memories alive through the years, and two, to actually see how I and my thoughts have changed. Please note that I seldom draft or edit my posts. Sometimes, if I'm not careful, I offend some of you, my readers. And while I apologize for making you feel uncomfortable, I am not sorry for being honest or for making well-intentioned mistakes. I will however be the first to admit if I change my mind. Hence, do read and proceed with caution. My life is as colorful and as boring as you make it. I complain many days, but offer some encouragement in others. Life is fluid, it changes. So keep the positives and throw away the negatives, and I do hope that at the end of the day, you will enjoy reading the blog and leaving comments here and there if my posts touches you. Happy reading!
