Chance or choice?

Don’t you think a lot happen by chance?

No really… a lot of things that happen to us, occur by chance!

For example, if I haven’t attended a specific activity two months ago, I wouldn’t have met the guy I’m dating right now…

If I wasn’t an officer who specifically volunteered to coordinate with him regarding an issue in the organization, he wouldn’t have had a glimpse of my personality…

If I haven’t been wearing a specific, body-clinging green outfit that day, he probably wouldn’t have noticed me… *he said, as a guy, though he was also attracted to my bubbly personality, the dress also initially attracted him*

If Karen and I chose to watch a movie at Warner as originally planned, instead of joining them for vodka and cake, I wouldn’t really get the chance to talk to him…

If I didn’t hand out my business card that day, he wouldn’t have the resources to text me that same night…

If my wireless router was out that night (as usually happens), he couldn’t have talked to him that night via MSN till 2:30AM…

And if he attended an event from a similar organization first and met someone he was interested in, he probably wouldn’t be emotionally available by the time I met him…

Sigh, that’s a lot of “what ifs,” aren’t there?

On hindsight, that would’ve meant a lot of “misses.”

I mean, one wrong move and I wouldn’t have had the chance to get to know this wonderful man.

And he wouldn’t have gotten the chance to be with me.

But then again, a lot of what has happened was also by choice…

For example, I could’ve not talked to him for hours on MSN, and chose to focus on work instead…

I could’ve chosen to decline his invitation to “have dinner and talk more” that same week…

I could’ve chosen not to stay beyond midnight talking to him the night we had dinner…

I could’ve said no to his invitation to go clubbing, join him and his friends for KTV… and half a dozen of other invitations to all for the sake of hanging out…

So, if you think about it, it’s all a combination of chance and choice…

Life’s funny that way.

As they say, “Life gives you a lot of chances… but it’s still up to you to make them happen.”

Boy, I totally agree with this 100%!

============================

*I wish I wrote this, but I didn’t. But it’s just so true and beautiful, I can’t help but share… enjoy!

When we meet the right person to love… when we’re at the right place at the right time. That’s CHANCE.

When you meet someone you’re attracted to, that’s not a choice. That’s CHANCE.

Being caught up in a moment (and there’s a lot of couples who get together because of this) is not a choice. That’s also CHANCE.

The difference is what happens afterwards.

When will you take that infatuation, that crush, that mind-blowing attraction to the next level? That’s when all sanity goes back, you sit down and contemplate whether you want to make this into a concrete relationship or just a fling.

If you decide to love a person, even with his faults, that’s not a chance. That’s CHOICE.

When you choose to be with a person, no matter what, that’s CHOICE.

Even if you know there are many people out there who are more attractive, smarter, and richer than your mate, and yet, you decide to love your mate just the same, that’s CHOICE.

Infatuation, crushes, attraction comes to us by CHANCE.

But true love that lasts is truly a CHOICE.

A choice that we make.

Regarding soul mates, there’s a beautiful movie quote that I believe is so true about this: “Fate brings you together, but it’s still up to you to make it happen.”

I do believe that soul mates do exist.

That there is truly someone made for you.

But it’s still up to you to make the choice if you’re going to do something about it or not.

We may meet our soul mates by CHANCE, but… loving and staying with our soul mates is still a CHOICE we’d all have to make.

About Bonita

I'm a forgetful person. But I think a lot. Every day, a lot of thoughts enter my head. That's why this blog came to be: first, to keep my memories alive through the years, and two, to actually see how I and my thoughts have changed. Please note that I seldom draft or edit my posts. Sometimes, if I'm not careful, I offend some of you, my readers. And while I apologize for making you feel uncomfortable, I am not sorry for being honest or for making well-intentioned mistakes. I will however be the first to admit if I change my mind. Hence, do read and proceed with caution. My life is as colorful and as boring as you make it. I complain many days, but offer some encouragement in others. Life is fluid, it changes. So keep the positives and throw away the negatives, and I do hope that at the end of the day, you will enjoy reading the blog and leaving comments here and there if my posts touches you. Happy reading!
